The history of Kingsdown Manor
Kingsdown Chapel, built in 1904, was a local Anglican church (St Matthews) until the 1970's when it was sold to the Tyree family who together with a talented Architect and Builders, Lawrence Tyree built the adjoining stunning two-story Manor complete with a 3 story Turret and a large barn. For over a decade it was known as Tyree House. The brick barn today retains it's rustic barn doors and beams but has been totally transformed into an elegant reception venue with a bar, a commercial kitchen, gorgeous chandeliers and integrated sound system.
Different owners over the years have renovated and added a pool, en-suites to the Manor rooms and developed the courtyard as an ambient place to gather. The venue was previously used for weddings, accommodation, thespian plays and concerts as well as a private home.
Greg & Mel Coles bought the property in 2022 and opened the Kingsdown Manor Bed & Breakfast later that year, and now also offer The Chapel, Wedding garden with courtyard and Brick Barn reception hall as an exceptional experience for events in this beautiful, historic venue.
Greg & Mel have worked to transform Kingsdown Manor into a stunning boutique wedding and events venue that Timaru can be proud of! Call or email to book now!
